Volunteer Corner

Volunteers are important to Burritt on the Mountain. We want to offer interesting, fulfilling and fun areas of interest to each and every person wanting to participate. Our mission could not be fulfilled without the generous, selfless gifts of time and effort. For any information about Volunteering with Burritt on the Mountain call Sherry Jones at 533-1365.

Getting Started! Volunteer Forms PDF Print E-mail

Volunteers are needed in so many areas - greeting visitors, leading tours, teaching children, helping with the trails and gardens, demonstrating 19th century skills, assisting with fund raisers and much, much more. To get started volunteering at Burritt, please Email the Volunteer Coordinator, or call 256-533-1365, and ask to have your email address added to our "Volunteer Opportunities" email alerts. Our Volunteer Interest form describes some of our volunteer positions, so please fill out the form and check the areas that sound interesting to you so we'll know a little more about what you're looking for. The Medical Release and Youth Questionnaire/Code of Conduct forms are for volunteers under the age of 18 (the medical form must be signed by a parent or guardian). All three forms may be either mailed to the address on the interest form, or may be dropped off on your next visit to Burritt. It's easy to get started, and we'd love to have you join us!

Some of our ongoing Volunteer Opportunities....

Trail Clearing Volunteers

Are you a nature-lover who loves the peaceful solitude of a mountain hiking trail? Well, Burritt's trails are here for your hiking pleasure, but we need the help of volunteers like you to keep them clean and safe. We'd like to invite you to come up anytime during our normal business hours to help clear the trails while you hike. Remove invasive plants, fallen branches, and anything else that might get in the way of the safety and enjoyment of hikers. Bring your own gloves and tools, or call ahead and we'll have some waiting for you or your group. When you're done, please record your hours in the Welcome Center, or you can email them anytime to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

SAFETY: Hiking and clearing the trails at Burritt is a great way to get outdoors, fit in a little exercise, enjoy the clean mountain air, and spend time with family and friends. However, safety is an important aspect of any outdoor activity, and the guidelines below will ensure your volunteer experience is a fun and safe one:

Stop in at the Welcome Center to let them know you're on the trails (Tues-Sun; closed Mon).

  • Carry your cell phone, and leave your number with the store staff.
  • Please keep track of the time so your car doesn't get locked in! The park gate is locked at 5pm April-Oct, and at 4pm Nov-March.
  • Please be careful! Burritt's trails are natural spaces -- home to wild critters and poison ivy -- so pick up a trail map at the store, stay on the trails, and follow the signs.
  • For more information, call the Welcome Center at 256-536-2882, or the Volunteer Coordinator at 256-533-1365 or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Delivery Crew Members Needed

One of the ways Burritt lets folks know what's happening on the mountain is through posters, calendars, and flyers. Posting these all over the valley is a daunting task, and we can't do it alone -- so we rely on volunteers to help us out. We're currently looking for a few new volunteers to join our Delivery Crew. Interested? If you spend time on the roads of Huntsville, Hampton Cove, or any surrounding areas and would enjoy stopping at local restaurants and businesses to drop off calendars and put up posters, then give us a call at 256-533-1365.

Please Record Your Hours! PDF Print E-mail

Recording your hours helps Burritt acknowledge all the hard work you do for our organization & the community, and provides us with the information needed to honor you through our various awards and appreciation events.
