Mansion Collections
Burritt is fortunate to house a wonderful assortment of items in our permanent collection which includes artifacts and pictures from the development of Monte Sano and The Monte Sano Hotel.  Also included in our permanent collection are the intriguing works of Mrs. Anne Bradshaw Clopton’s who used spider webs as her canvas.  Burritt is also proud to have one of the largest publicly owned collections of Maria Howard Weeden’s paintings.  Both Anne Clopton (1878 – 1956) and Maria Howard Weeden (1846 – 1905) were local artists from Huntsville who became well-known for their unique styles.Burritt also has a wonderful collection of antique American silver, including the 1895 tea service of Dr. Burritt’s second wife Josephine, along with an almost complete set of the her silverware engraved with her name.  While southern-made silver of the mid 19th-centry is rare, pieces were often marked with the stamp of the retailers.  Burritt is fortunate enough to have a few such elegant pieces. Throughout the Mansion and Historic Park there is a collection of rare Alabama and Huntsville made pieces of furniture.  These pieces were generously donated to the museum as important parts of Alabama history.  The Historic Park also houses items that date from the time period (1800-1900), or are replicas of time appropriate pieces.
