2023 HTMA January Coffeehouse – Shane Adkins

January 24 @ 7:00 pm

Burritt on the Mountain in collaboration with Huntsville Traditional Music Association are happy to announce the return of the Coffeehouse Series bringing monthly Coffeehouse Concerts back to the Old Country, freeing us from weather concerns and allowing a longer season.

Shane Adkins will bring his world class talent to our January coffeehouse stage on Tuesday, January 24.

Shane is an outstanding performer, showcasing extraordinary guitar skills, a captivating baritone voice and memorable, original songs. Shane was recently inducted into the 2022 National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame. In 2003, Shane won the International “Home of the Legends” Thumbpicking Contest in Muhlenberg County, KY and in September 2005, he won the International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in Winfield, Kansas. Shane writes historical songs that tell intriguing stories, funny songs full of laughs and touching songs that tug at the heart strings. Shane was inspired by Mose Rager, a thumbpicking pioneer who also influenced Merle Travis and Chet Atkins. Shane promotes thumb and fingerstyle guitar because he believes it is an American musical art form that should be preserved and shared. In January 2002, he performed his “Beans and Taters” on the Grand Ole Opry with Mike Snider. Shane has produced six outstanding albums, including his latest – Guitar Avenue. Shane will have some of his cds at the coffeehouse, so be sure to bring some cash for those. Cds will be $15 each with some discounts for multiple cd purchases. I have his first five cds and they are all outstanding. The simplest way to sample Shane’s music is to visit his web site at https://shaneadkins.com or go to YouTube and search for Shane Adkins. Chase Creek Strings will open the coffeehouse at 7:00.

Chase Creek Strings is composed of Jack Ellis on guitar and vocals, Sue Huffman on autoharp and vocals, Bill Cassels on fiddle and Stephanie Clark on fiddle and vocals. These longtime HTMA members have performed locally and regionally in numerous bands, bringing a mix of American folk music from the 19th and 20thcenturies, traditional songs of Appalachia, Irish ballads, and old-time gospel.

Advance tickets can be purchased at https://huntsvillefolk.org/ for $10.

This will guarantee that you will not be turned away at the door if the capacity of the church is exceeded. In addition, season tickets for all 10 coffeehouses are also available this year for $90, saving $10. Tickets will also be available at the door, starting at 6:30, for $10 cash, unless we are at full capacity. Children 12 and under continue to be free when accompanied by an adult.

This program has been made possible by a 2023 Arts & Cultural Grant from Arts Huntsville funded by the City of Huntsville.
