Blacksmithing: “Tools of the Trade”
Description: Students will enjoy spending a day in our beautiful forge as they learn the the basics of blacksmithing. This class, taught by Al Stephens of Pequea Valley Forge, will focus on several basic forging fundamentals. Using the forge, anvil, and basic hand tools students will learn tapering, spreading, scrolling, bending, and riveting as they make tools (more specifics and pictures to come).
Instructor: Al Stephens has recently retired having been a professional blacksmithing since 1992. He is a member of the Athens Forge chapter of the Alabama Forge Council. Al has taught classes for Burritt on the Mountain and Athens State University and demonstrated at local blacksmithing meetingsHe is a member of the Artist Blacksmithing of North America, ABANA, and the Alabama Forge Council. Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. If you have your own pair of safety goggles please feel free to bring them. Students should wear close-toed shoes and long pants. Shorts and open toed shoes will not be permitted!
Time: Saturday, September 28 (9:00am – 4:00pm)
Supply Fee: $25.00

Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.
Cancelation Policy: Students that cancel 14 days prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a full refund. Students that cancel 7 days prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a 50% refund. If student cancels 6 days or less prior to the date of the class no refund will be issued.
