Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Burritt on the Mountain has cancelled our Groundhog Day celebration scheduled for this Sunday, January 29th. This year we will defer to Punxsutawney Phil for his weather prediction. We look forward to seeing you on the Mountain this Spring for all we have in store.
On February 2, 1887, Groundhog Day was celebrated for the first time at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Groundhog Day is a day to take everything a little less seriously and break up the winter monotony.
Celebrate this tradition at Burritt on the Mountain with Alabama’s true weather forecasting groundhog Smith Lake Jake. According to legend, if Smith Lake Jake sees his shadow, he’ll return to his den and winter will continue for another six weeks. If he doesn’t see his shadow, spring will arrive early.
Celebration includes live music, hot cocoa, cookies and groundhog themed crafts. Groundhog Jake, Seer of Seers, Weather Prophet Extraordinaire will make his prediction at 3pm. Meet and greet with Groundhog Jake during the event. Top hats and autographed pictures will be on sale.
Winter Hot Toddy’s will be for sale for the adults.
Online ticket sales end at noon the day of the event. Tickets will be available for purchase at the gate.
