Ceramics: “Pottery with Lids”

Description: From cookie jars to butter keepers to casserole dishes, there are many uses for pottery with lids. In this class you will learn how to make a pottery dish with a lid, suitable for serving, storing, or baking food. There are numerous styles of lids and you will learn about several and how they are made, and then make your very own! Prior experience working on a potters wheel required.

Please note: Please confirm that you have taken one of our beginning wheel workshops before registering. Prior experience or classes taken elsewhere may also be sufficient. If you have questions about the experience level needed, please email us as jana.parris@huntsvilleal.gov.

This workshop is a 4 week series beginning on January 20th, 2022.

Session 1: Thursday, May 26th (6:00pm-9:00pm)

Session 2: Thursday, June 2nd (6:00pm-9:00pm)

Session 3: Thursday, June 9th (6:00pm-9:00pm)

Session 4: Thursday, June 16th  (6:00pm-9:00pm)


InstructorPaul Wieland has been making wheel-thrown pottery for over 15 years and has taught at multiple pottery studios throughout the region. He studied ceramics under Tom Marsh at the University of Louisville and was a co-founder of the Tennessee Valley Ceramic Arts Guild (TVCAG). He  has demonstrated pottery-making at the Burritt Museum Folklife Festival for several years. He has also exhibited his work at Lowe Mill in Huntsville and in Atlanta, GA. Supplies and Attire: Students should wear comfortable clothing. All other materials will be supplied.

First Session: Thursday, May 26th, 2022 (6:00pm-9:00pm)

Tuition: $205.00
Supply Fee: $30.00
Level: Intermediate


Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.

Cancellation Policy: Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. Students that cancel 14 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund, minus a $20.00 cancellation fee. If a student cancels 14 days or less prior to the date of the class, no refund can be issued.
