Deadline to Register: August 14th at 5:00pm
Description: Learn to knit lace. Reminiscent of the arched windows of gothic cathedrals, this simple lace pattern is repetitive, rhythmic and symmetrical, making it perfect for beginner lace knitters. We will learn how to read lace charts, knit directional decreases, and increase with yarn-overs all while creating this gorgeous cowl. Students will begin the cowl in class and complete the project at home. Please indicate your color choice of yarn upon registration in the “notes” section – Malabrigo Rios worsted weight hand-dyed 100% superwash Merino wool in dark blue, teal, grey, red, pink/purple, or beige.
For those of you who have attended either of my Introduction to Knitting at the Folk School making either dish cloths or the Wheat Scarf, you have all the skills needed to join us for this introduction to knitting lace. For students who are new to knitting at The Folk School, a working understanding of how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off is required for this class. Don’t have those skills down? Please join us for Introduction to Knitting 1 the next time it is offered.
Please note: Students who own a US 8 needles will need to bring them to class. If you don’t own these, they will be available for purchase in class for $13.00. Cash only, please.

Since then, she has expanded her craft into knitting lace, cables, and stranded color work in shawls, hats, socks, and sweaters. Katie is most proud of the garments that she has test knit as part of the design process for local Huntsville knitwear designer Knitosophy. Check out some of her finished work on Instagram @flintriverknitwear.
