Title: Folk School PreView: “Charcuterie Boards”

Join us for an evening of fun and folklife at our Folk School PreView! Held once a month during Burritt’s “Cocktails on the View” students will participate in a two hour introductory class taught by a Folk School instructor and enjoy cocktails and appetizers while creating their own project. Arrive at 5:00 pm and visit The View to purchase a drink and see the Huntsville skyline from Burritt’s 3000 square foot overlook. The class will begin at 5:30 and end by 7:30 giving you another thirty minutes to enjoy The View after class ends. Light appetizers will be served in class and this is included in the ticket price. These “previews” of our Folk School are perfect for socializing with friends or date night. Have a group of 6 or more and interested in a private event? Email jana.parris@huntsvilleal.gov.

Description: Come and join us for a two hour class to learn recipes, presentation techniques, and how to make a charcuterie board. Students will choose their preferred local wood species and shape of board. Once the boards are chosen, students will shape, sand, and finish their boards while learning proper care to ensure longevity. They will also learn how to properly pair and arrange foods into an appetizing and attractive work of art. Each student will leave with a beautiful, handmade charcuterie board they make and finish themselves under the guidance of instructor, Lindsey Boothe of Alabama Treenware.

Instructor: Lindsey Boothe is a lifelong resident of Appalachia and has been a traditional spoon carver for most of her adult life. “I have a deep passion for my Appalachian heritage and for the people here. A lot of that has to do with the strong communities you’ll find throughout the region. I am working to bring those back.” In addition to spoon carving, Lindsey loves to prepare traditional Appalachian foods for her family and friends. She has prepared and cured several artisanal sausages and meats for the ultimate charcuterie experience. After leaving her home state of West Virginia and moving to Madison in 2020, she has become involved in several community initiatives involving traditional crafting and cooking. You can almost always find Lindsey working in her wood shop, enjoying time with her young family, or creating something delicious in her kitchen.
