Title: Folk School PreView: “Glaze a Ceramic Wine Cup”
Join us for an evening of fun and folklife at our Folk School PreView! Held once a month during Burritt’s “Cocktails on the View” students will participate in a two hour introductory class taught by a Folk School instructor and enjoy cocktails and appetizers while creating their own project. Arrive at 5:00 pm and visit The View to purchase a drink and see the Huntsville skyline from Burritt’s 3000 square foot overlook. The class will begin at 5:30 and end by 7:30 giving you another thirty minutes to enjoy The View after class ends. A $12 charcuterie box is included with each ticket and will be served in class. Description: Join us for a two hour class to glaze a ceramic wine cup handcrafted in Burritt’s own pottery studio by local artist and instructor, Jessica Johnson. Choose from a variety of glaze colors and textures to apply to your cup and learn the steps of glazing a ceramic work of art. Please note: Cups will have to be fired in our kiln after glazing. They will be available for pick-up in the studio on Saturday, August 27th or Sunday, August 28th between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 pm. You may also choose to purchase a shipping ticket below to have it shipped to your home.
Instructor: Jessica Johnson is a wife, mother, artist, educator and athlete. She is an active member of the Alabama Women’s Caucus for the Arts and has had her work exhibited around the South. She has been an educator with Huntsville City School since 2011 and has taught Art I, Drawing I/II, Photo I/II, Painting I/II, AP Studio Art 2-D design, AP Drawing, Ceramic I/II, Magnet II and Magnet IV. She currently teaches Ceramic I and Ceramic II. Jessica has been teaching various ceramic workshops at Burritt’s Pottery Studio since it opened in 2020. In addition to art education, Jessica is the captain of the Dixie Derby Girls, Huntsville’s Flat Track Roller Derby Team. She is also married to a high school art educator and the mother of a young son who helps her see the world anew. “I love art and sharing the knowledge I have acquired over the years. Advocating for the arts and helping other grow their appreciation for the art is a life long passion of mine.”

Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.
Cancelation Policy: Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. Students that cancel 14 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund, minus a $20.00 cancellation fee. If a student cancels 14 days or less prior to the date of the class, no refund can be issued.
