Title: Gourd Crafting: “The Dream Weave”
Description: Students will learn how to cut, clean, and mark slots in a gourd using a mini jigsaw. Once we have our gourd ready, we will have fun weaving with many different materials that I will bring to share. The sky is the limit! These dream weaves will be your own and you are encouraged to do it your own way once we have the basics. These gourds can be stained or left natural.
Instructor: Katie Westmoreland is a Michigan native who began growing gourds for other artists in 2008 after attending her first gourd show in Alabama. She began to wonder if she could make one for a herself, and she created her first piece. After that, she kept crafting gourd after gourd and fulfilled her childhood dream of being an artist. She took as many classes as possible and got involved in several different groups. She currently grows 2.5 acres of gourds and wishes she had room to grow more! Being active in several gourd societies, teaching, attending events and growing keeps her active and engaged. In addition to her work with gourds, she is a married mother of three grown children, a dog and cat, and is active in her local church. She feels blessed to to be able to do the job she loves full time!
