Title: Master Workshop: “Whisked Away Weekend – Broom Making with Mark Hendry”

Description: Get whisked away for a whirlwind weekend crafting various styles of historic Appalachian whisk brooms. Students will create several functional & decorative whisk designs, using color and varying construction styles to take home a cache of whisks, along with the know-how to create more on their own. These highly useful & beautiful gems of the sweeper world make fantastic gifts, as well as being very fun and satisfying to make. All class tools and materials are included. All levels welcome. Some hand strength required.

 

Instructor: Mark Hendry is a full-time artisan specializing in historic handcraft with a focus on using natural materials. With over 35 years of experience as a professional teacher of fine and performing arts, both in private, public, and magnet schools, Mark travels throughout the country teaching all levels and ages. He teaches regularly for the John C. Campbell Folk School, is a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, and is currently the director and resident artist for Mountain Heritage Handcraft, located in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Students should wear close-toed shoes.

Time: Friday, September 25  (5:30pm–8:30pm)

Saturday, September 26 (9:00am-4:00pm)

Sunday, September 27 (9:00am-4:00pm)

Tuition: $245.00

Supply Fee: $50.00

Level: Beginner/Intermediate

 

Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.

Cancellation Policy: Master Workshops require advanced planning on the part of the instructor and the Burritt Folk School. Because of this, no refund of any payment will be made for withdrawal within 21 days of the start of the workshop. Prior to September 4, 2020, we will refund your registration fees less a $75 workshop cancellation fee. However, there will be no refunds given for cancellations after September 4, 2020. Burritt Folk School reserves the right to cancel workshops that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements. In case of cancellation by Burritt, payments for tuition, lunch and/or supply fees will be refunded to you. However, Burritt on the Mountain assumes no liability for non-refundable airline tickets or other expenses due to workshops being cancelled or schedule changes.
