Join us while the museum is closed to the public, Monday, November 2, 10 AM at Burritt on the Mountain for a behind-the-scene look at the mansion’s newest exhibit- The Struggle to Vote: The Nation, Alabama and the South 1848 to 1920.
In commemoration of the 19th Amendment’s Centennial, Sari Oosta with the League of Women Voters of the Tennessee Valley, will share information about the exhibit exploring the national, state and local history of the woman suffrage movement including the major players, controversies, and events. Also, discussed is the history of the racial prejudices within the movement, local history, and the need for continued work for women’s rights required beyond the ratification of the 19th Amendment.
Come and learn about the historical steps in securing the right to vote for women.
