Painting: “Watercolor for Beginners”
Description: Students are sure to have have fun in this workshop as they examine the basics needed for successful watercolor paintings: Proper paper, colors, brushes, etc. We will also examine watercolor techniques such as painting wet on dry; wet on wet; dry on wet; dry on dry. Students will look at the importance of value in a painting and examine the elements and principles of design. This is an introductory class so you will not be overwhelmed with detail but you will know enough to complete at least one painting you will be proud to hang in your home. The class will consist of a minimum of lecture and a maximum of hands-on art and experience.
Instructor: Raised on the plains of Western Kansas, Dennis Fakes realized at an early age that he had a knack for drawing. From drawing came oil painting, pen and ink, acrylic, and other mediums. He felt called into the ministry as a Lutheran pastor and for 40 years pursued this calling until he retired in 2014. It was then he picked up again his calling in art – especially watercolor. Watercolor has been his passion since then and in 2016 he picked up acrylic again and has been learning all he can about this medium. Dennis has successfully taught watercolor through the Huntsville Art League.
Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. We will be using a higher quality watercolor paint and paper from Daniel Smith.
Time: Saturday, January 18 (9:00am – 2:30pm)

Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.
Cancelation Policy: Students that cancel 14 days prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a full refund. Students that cancel 7 days prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a 50% refund. If student cancels 6 days or less prior to the date of the class no refund will be issued.
