Title: Music: “Bluegrass Dobro 101”

Description: If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to play a dobro guitar, this workshop is for you! This introduction to playing bluegrass style dobro guitar will be a 2-day, four hour a day class meeting on Friday, September 16 (5:00-9:00 pm) and Saturday, September 17 (9:00am-1:00pm). The following topics will be covered.

• Dobro history and anatomy
• Open & closed position scales
• Right- and left-hand techniques
• Intros & fills
• Rhythm & chops
• Practice drills
Along with the topics listed above we will learn a number of tunes including:
• “Home Sweet Home”
• “Fireball Mail”
• “Amazing Grace”
• “Banks of the Ohio”

Please note: Students may bring their own dobro from home. If students do not have one to use for the workshop, dobros will be available to rent for a fee of $20 per guitar, per day. To do this, please add the “Dobro Rental” ticket to your order below.

Instructor: Roman Locklear has been playing the dobro (squareneck resonator guitar) for about 15 years. He has been teaching dobro privately and in various workshops for about 5 years. In addition to private lessons, he hosts a yearly dobro workshop in Tellico Plains, Tn., through the Alabama Folk School at Camp McDowell, and for the Alabama Bluegrass Music Association. He was named the Alabama State Champion dobro player in 2018.

Supplies and Attire: Wear comfortable clothing. Please bring a dobro or rent one from us (see tickets).

Time: (8 hour workshop) Friday, September 16th (5:00-9:00) Saturday, September 17th (9:00am – 1:00pm)

Tuition: $120.00

Supply Fee: $2.00

Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.

Cancelation Policy: Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund, minus the non-refundable deposit. If a cancellation is requested 14 to 29 days from a class date, a refund of half the total price can be issued. No refunds will be issued less than 14 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent, there can be no exceptions to this policy, regardless for the reason a cancelation is requested.

Thank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time, energy, and money to create an amazing learning experience. 

*We require a minimum number of students to hold a class. If this minimum is not met, the class may be canceled or rescheduled. In this case, a full refund will be offered.
