Title: Music: “Let’s Play a Jig! Traditional Tunes on the Irish Bodhrán (Frame Drum)”
Description: Do you love Irish traditional music? Have you ever wanted to play an Irish Trad instrument? Have you ever wondered what it means to dance a Jig? This two-hour long class will introduce you to the bodhrán (Irish frame drum) and teach you how to play a simple Jig. No musical experience is necessary, and drums and tippers will be provided.
Instructor: Andy Kruspe is a freelance percussion instructor and bodhrán player from Huntsville, Alabama. He has performed with several groups throughout the southeastern United States, including Black Market Haggis, Mithril, David Coe and Friends, SlipJig, Candace Corrigan, the Liminal Duo, and 2nd Breakfast. Andy has taught at several workshops and clinics in the United States and Ireland, including The O’Flaherty’s Irish Music Retreat (Midlothian, Texas, USA), The Fiddle and Pick Irish Music Weekend (Pegram, Tennessee, USA), and Craiceann (Inis Oírr, Ireland). Andy has also written four method books for the drum- First Steps: A Beginner’s Guide to the Bodhrán, The Bodhrán Primer, Playing the Tune: Techniques for Accompanying Irish Traditional Music on the Bodhrán, and In Session + One (with Scottish bodhrán player Martin O’Neill). Outside of his involvement with Irish traditional music, Andy is active as a percussion instructor at the high school and college level. He coordinates the front ensemble for the Sparkman High School (Harvest, AL) Marching Band and Indoor Drum Line and teaches adjunct at the University of North Alabama (Florence, AL).

Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.
Cancellation Policy: Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. Students that cancel 14 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund, minus a $20.00 cancellation fee. If a student cancels 14 days or less prior to the date of the class, no refund can be issued.
