Opera on the Mountain: Learning Through the Arts – Opera for All Ages!

A collaboration with Burritt on the Mountain and Opera Huntsville

The Bremen Town Musicians

Thursday May 6, 2021 @ 10-11:30am

Burritt on the Mountain, in partnership with Encore Opera present “The Bremen Town Musicians”.

Come enjoy this light opera version of The Town Musicians of Bremen. Audience members of all ages (including children) will love this somewhat silly and totally fun production that includes the music by famous opera composers such as J. Offenbach, G. Rossini, G. Donizetti, A. Sullivan and G. Verdi. This lighthearted production introduces the audience to opera in a way that is both enjoyable and inspiring.  After the show join Burritt educators on a tour to meet our real live barnyard animals and learn what these animals provide for a farmer’s family.

Eddie Pensier, the rooster with operatic aspirations, Barcarolle, the dog, Dorabella, the cat, are invited to join the band of General Boom, a retired army donkey. General Boom is on his way to Bremen to begin a new band. As each of the runaways cross the General’s path, he invites them to join his band. They have plans of their own, however, and decline the invitation. The woods surrounding the Bremen Road are filled with uncertainty. Eddie, Dorabella and Barcarolle become lost and argue angrily until General Boom hears their shouting and rescues them. With rumors of robbers all about and night approaching, they accept the General’s suggestion to overlook their differences, join his band and march to Bremen. Working together as a team they overcome difficult circumstances further down the road, and as they approach their new home, the newly formed Bremen Town Musicians celebrate the idea that friendship, cooperation, and respect for others is far better than facing problems alone.

The cast includes Shane Kennedy, Laura LeVoir, Andrew Nalley, and Celese Sanders, accompanied by Alina Bennett.
