Workshop: Painting: “The Landscape of Pastel”
Description: In this class, the student will learn the qualities of pastel what and when to use them, mark making, achieving realistic light and transparency, foliage, form, color theory, atmospheric perspective, and safety. The class will be lecture, demo, and interaction. The class duration is between 3-4 hours depending on student’s work speed. Students will have a finished or near finished work of art at class end.
Instructor: Brian Curnel started his art career in 2005 under the mentorship of Michael Dumas, (Canadian wildlife artist). He attended the Art Academy of San Francisco where he received his foundations at Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design in Illustration. His medium of preference is soft pastel for its versatility and subtle color effects and has been using this medium for 10 years. His style tends to be impressionistic with some qualities of realism. As a Lowe Mill artist, he has instructed classes at Lowe Mill Arts and Huntsville Art League as well as in his personal studio. Now more than ever Brian is elated to bring his experience to his new home at Burritt Museum.
Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes that it will not concern you if they get dirty.

Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.
Cancelation Policy: Students that cancel 14 days prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a full refund. Students that cancel 7 days prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a 50% refund. If student cancels 6 days or less prior to the date of the class no refund will be issued.
