Title: Tinsmithing: “Autumn Light”
Description: In this two day workshop, students will learn basics of pattern use, reproducing a lantern or other tin items from an actual artifact, plan lay-out, cutting, soldering to make historic tin items such as lanterns, holiday decorations, sconces, candle holders, etc. This class is for beginners as well as those who already have some experience.
Instructor: Pat McMillion is an award-winning teacher (retired) who was hooked on tinsmithing from her very first class with Harry Kruppenbach and Clinton Pitts in 2003. Since then, she has completed 23 classes, built her own backyard studio, and filled it with all of the necessary historic tools to reproduce lighting, cooking equipment, household goods and decorative items for her home, friends and historic parks. In 2017, the entire contents of her shop were donated to the Dorothy Davidson Rosenwald School Industrial Room at Burritt on the Mountain.
Supplies and Attire: Wear Cotton clothing and closed shoes (leather preferred). Safety glasses provided but participants may bring their own. All necessary tools provided, but students may bring their own.
Time: (9 hour workshop) Saturday, September 18th (9:00am – 4:00pm) AND Sunday, September 19th (1:00pm – 4:00pm)

Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.
Cancelation Policy: Students that cancel 14 days prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a full refund. Students that cancel 7 days prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a 50% refund. If student cancels 6 days or less prior to the date of the class no refund will be issued.
