Wood-Burning: “Vintage Huntsville Map”
Deadline to Register: March 5th at 5:00pm
Description: Calling all Huntsville & history lovers, this workshop is for you! Learn the techniques of wood-burning with local pyrography artist, Lauren Concepcion, while creating a vintage map of Huntsville. Originally published in a 1950’s travel brochure featuring Huntsville, we will burn the “Heart of the Tennessee Valley” map onto a wooden, 7×7” circular plaque, with a light green border, for decorating your home or office. No experience is necessary. Lauren will provide the design & teach participants the basic techniques of wood-burning, how to use and care for their burners, as well as share her step-by-step process for each project.
Instructor: Being a drawer & dabbler in creative endeavors since childhood, Lauren Concepcion began her wood-burning journey 7 years ago, on a whim. After moving to Huntsville, she began to pursue pyrography as an artist, eventually starting her own wood-burning business. An old, but vastly under-represented art form, pyrography nearly fell out of existence over the past few decades. With the rise of the internet, however, many artists are breathing new life into wood-burning. Through her work & teachings, Lauren hopes to reawaken the lost folk art of pyrography & explore this medium’s vast potential.
Lauren is a self-taught pyrographer & novice wood-worker, often incorporating mixed medias into her work. You can find Lauren locally through her business, LC Pyrography, at lcpyrography.square.site & on Instagram @laurenkconcepcion.
