Description: Learn the techniques of woodburning, with local pyrographer Lauren Concepcion, while burning your own version of Lauren’s, “Starry Rocket”. Created to represent both Huntsville’s space history, as well as it’s growing art community, the design features The Space & Rocket Center in the style of van Gogh’s, “The Starry Night”. No experience is necessary. This class is suited for both beginners & intermediate woodburners. Lauren will teach her step-by-step process for completing wood-burning projects, while teaching students basic wood-burning techniques, as well as how to use & care for their wood-burners. All designs will be provided & pre-transferred onto a 5” wood plaque. Students will get to woodburn, as well as watercolor, to complete their project. 

Instructor: Lauren Concepcion Originally a psychology graduate, with the intent on studying landscape architecture, Lauren has explored many creative paths. Getting her start about 6 years ago, all these paths eventually morphed and converged into something entirely different: wood-burning. Being a drawer and maker of things all her life, Lauren believes in filling our environments with thoughtful and meaningful pieces; that hand-made items are special, purposeful and invaluable. She hopes to share this belief, along with the reawakening of this forgotten technique, with others. Supplies and Attire: All materials and equipment are provided. Please wear comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes. Clothing should be comfortable. No long sleeves or fabric that cannot be rolled up or moved out of the way of the pen while burning. If students have their own burners they would like to bring they may do so. Burners will be available for purchase after the class if students would like to do so.

Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.

Cancellation Policy: Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. Students that cancel 14 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund, minus a $20.00 cancellation fee. If a student cancels 14 days or less prior to the date of the class, no refund can be issued.
