In honor of America’s 250th birthday\, Burritt on the Mountain is turning history into hands-on fun for the whole family. \nStep into the Past \nWander through real 19th-century houses that families lived in long ago! Each one has amazing stories waiting for you to discover. \nPlay\, Create\, and Explore \nKids\, ages 4–12\, can jump into exciting activities: \n• Old-fashioned games that let you play like children in the 1800s \n• Heritage crafts and skills that let you see what it was like to make things for your family and home before modern conveniences \n• Panning for gemstones and fool’s gold at the sluice like the prospectors did during the Alabama gold rush of 1829 \n• Searching for the answers to the We the People scavenger hunt \nLearn on Your Way \nAt each stop\, find a few fun facts about the families that lived in the houses located in our historic park or scan easy QR codes for more in-depth knowledge about the past. (Adults will enjoy this too!) \nIt’s a day packed with discovery — celebrating the people\, places\, and moments that shaped our nation. DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: April 7th\, 2026 at 5:00pm \nWorkshop: Weekday Series: “Plant Hangers” \nDescription: This class will focus on several basic forging fundamentals. Using the forge\, anvil\, and basic hand tools students will learn tapering\, spreading\, scrolling\, bending\, and riveting as they make hanger hooks perfect for hanging plants and more! Although these hooks are simple looking\, the skill involved in spreading and forming the material will be slightly advanced. \nInstructor: Al Stephens has recently retired having been a professional blacksmithing since 1992. He is a member of the Athens Forge chapter of the Alabama Forge Council. Al has taught classes for Burritt on the Mountain and Athens State University and demonstrated at local blacksmithing meetings. He is a member of the Alabama Forge Council. All other materials and tools will be supplied. Students should wear “work” clothes. Jeans and cotton shirts (or other cotton clothing) are recommended. Closed-toe shoes with socks are required. NO sandals or crocs\, please. Leather work gloves are optional. Please note that this class requires standing throughout the day. \nTime: Tuesday\, April 14\, 2026 (9:00am-4:00pm) \nTuition: $110.00\nSupply Fee: $25.00\nLevel: Beginner/Novice \n~~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville\, all their directors\, employees\, volunteers\, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain\, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program. \nCancelation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund\, minus the non-refundable deposit. If a cancellation is requested 14 to 29 days from a class date\, a refund of half the total price can be issued. No refunds will be issued less than 14 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent\, there can be no exceptions to this policy\, regardless for the reason a cancelation is requested. \nThank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time\, energy\, and money to create an amazing learning experience.
