Each one has amazing stories waiting for you to discover. \nPlay\, Create\, and Explore \nKids\, ages 4–12\, can jump into exciting activities: \n• Old-fashioned games that let you play like children in the 1800s \n• Heritage crafts and skills that let you see what it was like to make things for your family and home before modern conveniences \n• Panning for gemstones and fool’s gold at the sluice like the prospectors did during the Alabama gold rush of 1829 \n• Searching for the answers to the We the People scavenger hunt \nLearn on Your Way \nAt each stop\, find a few fun facts about the families that lived in the houses located in our historic park or scan easy QR codes for more in-depth knowledge about the past. (Adults will enjoy this too!) \nIt’s a day packed with discovery — celebrating the people\, places\, and moments that shaped our nation. SUMMARY:Stained Glass “Patriotic Star”
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: June 6th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Stained Glass- “Patriotic Star” \nDescription: This year the celebration of Independence Day (July 4th) is so very special. Let’s honor the 250th birthday of our country by making 3D Patriotic Stars in glass.  Each star will be constructed using red\, white and blue glass.\n \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Karen Reed. Karen Reed (Earthstar Glass) has been an art glass professional for over 40 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in several states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years.  She has also written for: International Guild of Glass Artist’s publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, Fired Arts\, The Crafts Report and the e-magazine artglassinfo.com  Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work and she has previously taught at folk schools in nine states including John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC\, Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and The Appalachian Center for Craft. She had been at Burritt Folk School for the last six years. Locally\, her work is available in Josie’s Gift Shop at Burritt on the Mountain and in The Huntsville Art League (Lowe Mill) \n \nSupplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Students should wear closed-toed shoes. \nTime: Saturday\, June 13th  (9:00am – 2:00pm) \nTuition: $95.00 \nSupply Fee: $25.00 \nLevel:  All Levels \n~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville\, all their directors\, employees\, volunteers\, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain\, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program. \nCancelation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund\, minus the non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be issued less than 30 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent\, there can be no exceptions to this policy\, regardless for the reason a cancelation is requested. \nThank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time\, energy\, and money to create an amazing learning experience.  \n*We require a minimum number of students to hold a class. If this minimum is not met\, the class may be canceled or rescheduled. In this case\, a full refund will be offered.

SUMMARY:Beginner Leather Working: Coin Purse
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: June 6th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Beginner Leather Working: “Coin Purse” \nDescription: In this introductory class\, students will learn the fundamentals of working with leather using traditional hand tools. Through guided\, hands-on instruction\, participants will practice basic techniques such as hand-sewing\, stamping and edge finishing while gaining an understanding of different leather types and tools. Each student will complete a small leather project- such as a coin pouch or other small item – while building the skills and confidence to continue exploring leathercraft at home. All materials and tools are provided. No experience is necessary\, just bring your creativity and enthusiasm! \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local weaver and leathercrafter Emily Wallace. Emily has been teaching weaving\, spinning\, and other fiber arts to the public for over 10 years\, with more recent experience in leather crafting. She previously owned a yarn shop in Hartselle\, AL and has taught a wide range of workshops at yarn shops and studios.
