DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: March 10th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Weekday Series Stained Glass: “Dragonfly Panel” \nDescription:  This stained glass panel has two layers\, the base layer and the magical dragonfly.  The class will cover all aspects of building a panel plus how to construct and attach an overlay. Two classes in one session!   Beginners are welcome. There will be a half-hour lunch break during this class. We recommend you bring a lunch from home. \n  \nInstructor: Karen Reed has been an art glass professional for over 35 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in four states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years. She has also written for: International Guild of Glass Artists publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, the e-magazine artglassinfo.com\, Fired Arts and Crafts and The Crafts Report. Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work. She has previously taught at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC and has delighted in teaching at Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and Appalachian Center for Crafts for over a decade. Please bring a lunch from home or plan to drive a short distance and return within an hour. \nInstructor: Al Stephens has recently retired having been a professional blacksmithing since 1992. He is a member of the Athens Forge chapter of the Alabama Forge Council. Have you ever wanted to learn how to play a folk instrument? Then this class is for you! Come and spend some time with us learning how to play the bodhran (Irish traditional frame drum). This class will teach you how to hold the drum\, how to hold the tipper (drum stick)\, and how to play some simple rhythmic patterns. We will then use these skills to learn how to play a simple Irish reel. \nInstructor: Andy Kruspe is the owner and operator of The Irish Drum Center at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment as well as a teacher and performer of the bodhran (Irish traditional frame drum). Your instructor will guide you through the essential steps of creating a wheel thrown vessel. Each student will create one or two pieces to be fired and glazed. Students will return on Sunday\, April 19th to glaze their fired pieces. They will be fired one more time and ready for pick up the following week. \nPlease keep in mind that throwing on the pottery wheel is a skill that can take many years to master. This is an opportunity to get your hands dirty and see what wheel throwing is all about. This is a great class for someone who had never tried a wheel or for students who have taken our “Test Drive” class and want to progress even more.
