DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: May 13th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Weekday Series: “Folk Art Stained Glass Windchime” \nDescription:  This is a lovely stained glass project that is fun to make.  The very gentle sound of the chimes will delight you for years to come. Beginners are welcome. There is fine detail work involved. \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Karen Reed. Karen Reed (Earthstar Glass) has been an art glass professional for over 40 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in several states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years.  She has also written for : International Guild of Glass Artist’s publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, Fired Arts\, The Crafts Report and the e-magazine artglassinfo.com  Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work and she has previously taught at folk schools in nine states including John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC\, Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and The Appalachian Center for Craft. She had been at Burritt Folk School for the last six years. Locally her work is available in Josie’s Gift Shop at Burritt on the Mountain and in The Huntsville Art League (Lowe Mill) \n \nSupplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Students should wear close-toed shoes. \nTime: Tuesday\, May 20 (9:00am – 3:30pm) \nTuition: $105.00 \nSupply Fee: $20.00 \nLevel:  All Levels \n~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville\, all their directors\, employees\, volunteers\, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain\, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program. \nCancelation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund\, minus the non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be issued less than 30 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent\, there can be no exceptions to this policy\, regardless for the reason a cancelation is requested. \nThank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time\, energy\, and money to create an amazing learning experience.  \n*We require a minimum number of students to hold a class. If this minimum is not met\, the class may be canceled or rescheduled. In this case\, a full refund will be offered.

DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: May 13th\, 2025 at 5:00pm \nWorkshop: Weekday Series: “Grilling Tools” \nDescription: This class will focus on several basic forging fundamentals.  Using the forge\, anvil\, and basic hand tools and techniques\, students will forge a spatula\, and a steak turner. The class will focus on hammer control using full\, and half face blows\, to taper\, draw\, bend\, and rivet. \nPlease note: There will be a lunch break of approximately one hour. Please bring a lunch from home or plan to drive a short distance and return within an hour. \nInstructor: Al Stephens has recently retired having been a professional blacksmithing since 1992. He is a member of the Athens Forge chapter of the Alabama Forge Council. Al has taught classes for Burritt on the Mountain and Athens State University and demonstrated at local blacksmithing meetings. He is a member of the Alabama Forge Council.
