DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: April 3 at 5:00pm \nTitle: Weekday Series – Glass: “Introduction to Glass Fusing” \nDescription:  Come and join us for fun Glass Fusing project! You will be making a 6×6 project to display or hang in your home.  We’ll walk you through each step\, giving you tricks and tips on how to use our glass fusing materials and tools along the way. Once completed the projects will be fired and ready for pick-up the following week. \nInstructor: Cate Woodall is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a visual arts degree specializing in ceramics. She has taught hand-building clay and pottery painting classes as well as glass fusing for several years. She enjoys helping people find a stress free outlet for their creativity. \n Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. \nTime: Friday\, April 10th (1:00pm-4:00pm): \nTuition: $50.00 \nSupply Fee: $20.00 \nLevel: Beginner \n~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville\, all their directors\, employees\, volunteers\, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain\, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of activities during the educational program. \nCancellation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advanced planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students cancelling 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund\, minus the non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be issued less than 30 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent\, there can be no exceptions to this policy\, regardless the reason a cancellation is requested. \nThank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time\, energy\, and money to create an amazing learning experience.  \n*We require a minimum number of students to hold a class. DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: April 7th\, 2026 at 5:00pm \nWorkshop: Weekday Series: “Plant Hangers” \nDescription: This class will focus on several basic forging fundamentals. Using the forge\, anvil\, and basic hand tools students will learn tapering\, spreading\, scrolling\, bending\, and riveting as they make hanger hooks perfect for hanging plants and more! Although these hooks are simple looking\, the skill involved in spreading and forming the material will be slightly advanced. \nInstructor: Al Stephens has recently retired having been a professional blacksmithing since 1992. He is a member of the Athens Forge chapter of the Alabama Forge Council. Al has taught classes for Burritt on the Mountain and Athens State University and demonstrated at local blacksmithing meetings. He is a member of the Alabama Forge Council. DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: April 14th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Weekday Series – Jewelry: “Fused Glass Necklace Pendant” \nDescription: This class is for beginning fusers. During the class we will be kiln making frit and each necklace pendant will be composed differently. A full analysis of the firing schedules will accompany each pendant. Also you will have a choice of various glass and textures for your projects. If you have ever been interested in fusing glass\, this class will be an excellent starting point. \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principal Instructor\, Karen Reed. Karen Reed (Earthstar Glass) has been an art glass professional for over 40 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in several states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years.  She has also written for : International Guild of Glass Artist’s publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, Fired Arts\, The Crafts Report and the e-magazine artglassinfo.com  Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work and she has previously taught at folk schools in nine states including John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC\, Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and The Appalachian Center for Craft. She had been at Burritt Folk School for the last six years. Locally her work is available in Josie’s Gift Shop at Burritt on the Mountain and in The Huntsville Art League (Lowe Mill) \n \nSupplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided.
