DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: August 4th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Stained Glass Weekday Series- “Sunflower Suncatcher” \nDescription: This sunflower is so much fun to create. It is composed of 2 complete layers of open work. Although it may look like a more intermediate level workshop\, even if you have only cut glass a few times\, this workshop is for you. Come spend the day at Burritt and take home a cheerful sunflower to brighten your day! \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Karen Reed. Karen Reed (Earthstar Glass) has been an art glass professional for over 40 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in several states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years.  She has also written for: International Guild of Glass Artist’s publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, Fired Arts\, The Crafts Report and the e-magazine artglassinfo.com  Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work and she has previously taught at folk schools in nine states including John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC\, Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and The Appalachian Center for Craft. She had been at Burritt Folk School for the last six years. Locally\, her work is available in Josie’s Gift Shop at Burritt on the Mountain and in The Huntsville Art League (Lowe Mill) \n \nSupplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Students should wear closed-toed shoes. \nTime: Tuesday\, August 11th (9:00am – 2:00pm) \nTuition: $95.00 \nSupply Fee: $25.00 \nLevel:  Intermediate \n~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville\, all their directors\, employees\, volunteers\, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain\, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program. \nCancelation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund\, minus the non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be issued less than 30 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent\, there can be no exceptions to this policy\, regardless for the reason a cancelation is requested. \nThank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time\, energy\, and money to create an amazing learning experience.  \n*We require a minimum number of students to hold a class. If this minimum is not met\, the class may be canceled or rescheduled. In this case\, a full refund will be offered.

SUMMARY:Weekday Series- Ceramics: Slab Dish
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: August 20thth at 5:00pm \nTitle: Ceramics: “Slab Dish” \nDescription: The slab technique is a simple concept that has infinite possibilities and can be used to make a variety of types of pottery from functional pieces like serving dishes or vases to artistic centerpieces or wall sculptures. Bring your imagination and see what you can create! Students will return on Sunday\, August 30th to glaze their pieces. (If the student is unable to attend the glazing session\, the instructor can apply the glaze of your choice.) \nInstructor: Paul Wieland has been making wheel-thrown pottery for over 15 years and has taught at multiple pottery studios throughout the region. He studied ceramics under Tom Marsh at the University of Louisville and was a co-founder of the Tennessee Valley Ceramic Arts Guild (TVCAG). He has demonstrated pottery-making at the Burritt Museum Folklife Festival for several years. He has also exhibited his work at Lowe Mill in Huntsville and in Atlanta\, GA. You may see examples of Paul’s work on his website\, Nascent Pottery. \n Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided.
