Listen to musicians throughout the park play traditional instruments and music enjoyed during our Alabama beginnings. \nFamilies can also participate in Burritt’s We the People activities for children ages 4-12 and learn about the original families that lived in our historic homes. \nRegular Burritt admissions rates apply\, and this event is free to Burritt Members.

DESCRIPTION:Historic Hands: “Foraged Spring Wreath” \nDeadline to Register: May 8th at 5:00pm \nDescription:  Our “Historic Hands” series are workshops that feature traditional projects that are taught at various locations throughout our historic park! Join us to make a wreath from locally harvested kudzu. Weather permitting\, students will forage for plants on Burritt’s trails and use these plants to craft a lovely wreath that reflects the changing season. Please note: This class will require walking on uneven paths in the outdoors. \nInstructor:  Beth Phillips says “I weave lighting\, sculptures and basketry using whole and split Kudzu vines. I also make paper from the leaves\, and I recently learned the ancient process of extracting the fiber from the vines to weave cloth and am excitedly pursuing that side of creating with kudzu at present. Images and examples of my more recent work can be seen on my social media pages on FB and IG @kudzumama. With the invasive nature of kudzu such an environmental and ecological issue in the South\, I love the opportunity to share all the wonderful uses and products that can be derived from such a maligned vine.” \nSupplies and Attire: All supplies will be provided. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Work spaces will be covered\, but not necessarily enclosed or heated/cooled. \nTime: Thursday\, May 15 (1:00pm-4:00pm) \nTuition: $45.00 \nSupply Fee: $5.00 \nLevel: Multi-Level. \n  \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville\, all their directors\, employees\, volunteers\, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain\, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program. \nCancelation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund\, minus the non-refundable deposit. DESCRIPTION:  \n \n“Women’s Work”\nSaturday\, May 10th | 10am – 4pm \nImmerse yourself in the world of 19th century women! Experience hands-on activities. Try your hand at the drop spindle\, wool carding and laundry at the washboard. Active\, ongoing demonstrations will include weaving\, spinning\, open-hearth cooking and the washing and mending of clothes\, among other tasks\, done as they would have been in 1800s North Alabama. \n  \n
