Once completed the projects will be fired and ready for pick-up the following week. \nInstructor: Cate Woodall is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a visual arts degree specializing in ceramics. She has taught hand-building clay and pottery painting classes as well as glass fusing for several years. She enjoys helping people find a stress free outlet for their creativity. \n Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. \nTime: Friday\, June 5th\, 2026 (1:00pm-4:00pm): \nTuition: $50.00 \nSupply Fee: $20.00 \nLevel: Beginner \n~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. SUMMARY:Stained Glass “Patriotic Star”
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: June 6th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Stained Glass- “Patriotic Star” \nDescription: This year the celebration of Independence Day (July 4th) is so very special. Let’s honor the 250th birthday of our country by making 3D Patriotic Stars in glass.  Each star will be constructed using red\, white and blue glass.\n \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Karen Reed. Karen Reed (Earthstar Glass) has been an art glass professional for over 40 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in several states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years.  She has also written for: International Guild of Glass Artist’s publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, Fired Arts\, The Crafts Report and the e-magazine artglassinfo.com  Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work and she has previously taught at folk schools in nine states including John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC\, Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and The Appalachian Center for Craft. She had been at Burritt Folk School for the last six years. Locally\, her work is available in Josie’s Gift Shop at Burritt on the Mountain and in The Huntsville Art League (Lowe Mill) \n \nSupplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. SUMMARY:Textile Arts: "Folded Bark Baskets"
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: June 14th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Textile Arts: “Folded Bark Baskets” \nDescription: In this class\, each student will begin with a four-foot section of poplar log. They will be instructed in how to remove\, fold and begin to dry a piece of bark. They will take this unfinished basket and other supplies home to complete on their own later after drying. Next\, students will be provided a preform basket and construct a basket (attach handle\, rim supports\, etc.) and have the opportunity to add various embellishments. Each student will take home both their completed basket and the folded/drying bark to complete at home. \nInstructor: Andrew Lee is a professional educator with over two decades of teaching experience. His fascination with history began by finding Native American artifacts in Northwest Georgia as a young boy. He credits this time in his life as crucial in developing a deep interest in understanding past cultures. While at the University of Georgia\, Andrew met master primitive skills instructor Scott Jones. After taking Jones’ flintknapping class\, the fuse was officially lit. More than twenty years later\, through teaching in elementary and middle schools as well as in the correctional setting\, the constant passion in Andrew’s educational life has been pursuing history\, including learning more about primitive skills. His hands-on workshops and the bark baskets & stone-bladed knives that he creates are ways that he expresses this love of history and nature. He teaches workshops at various locations around the southeast including John C. Campbell Folk School in western North Carolina and Foxfire in Northeast Georgia. \n Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided.
