DESCRIPTION:EXPLORE NATURE \nBirding at Burritt \nJanuary 31st     |     10am-4pm \n  \nRescheduled to Saturday\, January 31\, 2026 \nWelcome to Birding Day at Burritt on the Mountain \n  \nQuinn Wildlife Sanctuary – Opening Soon in Huntsville 10:15 am Folkschool Classroom  \nCome meet Alexis Quinn and learn about raptors and their unique adaptations.  She will also discuss the plans for their sanctuary.  The presentation will be at 10:15 am\, but Alexis will be on-site till 3 pm with information about the sanctuary. \n11:00-12:30  Birdwatching 101 with Randy Crouse from Audubon Society \nBirding 101: This beginner birding class includes techniques for using binoculars and quick tips for spotting and identifying birds. Will take a short walk around the park to identify some birds. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars. \n11:15\, Noon\, 1:00\, and 3:00 Caring for Chickens  \nVisit the Burritt Barnyard to view a chicken habitat and meet and feed the chickens. Learn what it takes to create your own flock of egg layers. The eggs laid at Burritt are sold in Josie’s gift shop. \nTommy Howell Bird Encounter Nature Program   1:30-2:30pm Meet in the Church             \nCome enjoy Tommy’s “Beauties from the Sky” program. This outstanding collection of unusual birds will impress you! This fun and educational outing will fascinate the entire family. Seating is limited\, and it is on a first come first served basis. The doors open at 1:15\, and no one will be seated after the show begins. \nBird crafts for kids in the Folkschool Classroom – 10am-4pm \n  \nRegular Burritt admission rates apply\, and these events are free to Burritt Members.

DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: Thursday\, January 15\, 2026 \nTitle: Weekday Series: Visual Arts- ‘Watercolor Birding’ \nDescription: If outdoor Birding at Burritt is a little more than you are up for\, this Birding watercolor class may be just what you are looking for!  Come spend a couple of hours with an accomplished instructor to get you started on your watercolor birding adventure.\nTuition cost includes instruction and all your supplies. This class is great for all skill levels\, even if you have never picked up a paint-brush\, the point is to come and relax for a bit while creating something special! \nInstructor: Your instructor\, Lynn Lawrence\, has been painting since she was 7 years old. She started watercolor painting under the tutelage of her aunt\, Ruth Brown\, a well-known Alabama watercolorist.  She went on to compete in high school\, in a variety of media\, and was offered a scholarship to the Art Institute of Atlanta. Sadly\, she was pushed to pursue a business degree instead of following her heart.  Much later in life\, Lynn became a Certified Bob Ross instructor and taught his wet-on-wet technique throughout North Alabama up until 2020.  She brings a love for light\, color\, and nature to every classroom. \n Supplies and Attire:  All supplies included with tuition\, including – Spiral-bound Birds Watercolor Workbook featuring 12 different birds to paint\, durable 120lb custom watercolor paper\, paint set includes 12 basic colors\, plus black and brown\, and one high-quality watercolor brush (normally sold separately)\, travel-ready 6.5 by 9 inch workbook and paint set in its own case. \nTime: Thursday\, January 22\, 2026 (1:00pm-3:00pm) \nTuition: $75.00 \nSupply Fee: included with tuition \nLevel: Beginner \n~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville\, all their directors\, employees\, volunteers\, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain\, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of activities during the educational program. \nCancellation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advanced planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund\, minus the non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be issued less than 30 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent\, there can be no exceptions to this policy\, regardless the reason a cancellation is requested. \nThank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time\, energy\, and money to create an amazing learning experience.  \n*We require a minimum number of students to hold a class.
