Andrew Garner and his Legend (Allison and Chad Mackey) have been spreading the joy shared over music (and a pint) to everyone who’s ready to listen and sing along. \n \nLawana Beard is the Opening Act\nLawana Beard will perform a repertoire of Celtic favorites on her diatonic autoharp to include tunes by Turlough O’Carolan\, the beloved and renowned 17thcentury Irish harpist. \n \nAdvance tickets can be purchased at https://huntsvillefolk.org/ for $10. \nThis will guarantee that you will not be turned away at the door if the capacity of the church is exceeded. In addition\, season tickets for all 10 coffeehouses are also available this year for $90\, saving $10. Tickets will also be available at the door\, starting at 6:30\, for $10 cash\, unless we are at full capacity. SUMMARY:Mansion Exhibit: Quilts from our Collection
DESCRIPTION:Quilts from our Collections \nApril 2023 – January 2024 \n \nQuilts are not just a way to keep warm and to decorate a room\, quilts often tell stories\, and often it becomes a good mystery. Who made them\, the fabric that was used\, and who it might have been made for are all part of the story. Whatever the story\, quilts are an amazing piece of art; they are beautiful and a testament to the handwork and skill of the quilter. \n \nOver the years\, Burritt has acquired a collection of quilts of all different patterns representing this age-old traditional craft. A selection will be on display in the Burritt Mansion. Burritt’s collection of quilts date from the early 1800s to the 1930s. \n \nA few of the displayed quilts are of local significance while others are a wonderful example of the fun patterns and the skill of the quilter. A quilt made by Ellen Steele Tracy\, daughter to famed architect George Steele and a quilt from the Jones-Criner families will be displayed. \n \nAs always\, there is a nice selection of quilts in our Historic Park cabins. The exhibit is included in general admission to the museum. \n \nFor the summer months\, (May – Sept) Burritt is honored to showcase a quilt by local artist Tiavalya Befecadu\, in coordination with Historic Huntsville Foundation. Tiavalya created a Gees Bend inspired quilt that honors Alabama’s women authors such as Margaret Walker\, Harper Lee\, Fannie Flagg and Huntsville’s own Yaa Gyasi.

Each student will leave with a beautiful\, handmade charcuterie board they make and finish themselves under the guidance of instructor\, Lindsey Boothe of Alabama Treenware. \nInstructor: Lindsey Boothe is a lifelong resident of Appalachia and has been a traditional spoon carver for most of her adult life. “I have a deep passion for my Appalachian heritage and for the people here. A lot of that has to do with the strong communities you’ll find throughout the region. I am working to bring those back.” In addition to spoon carving\, Lindsey loves to prepare traditional Appalachian foods for her family and friends. She has prepared and cured several artisanal sausages and meats for the ultimate charcuterie experience. After leaving her home state of West Virginia and moving to Madison in 2020\, she has become involved in several community initiatives involving traditional crafting and cooking. You can almost always find Lindsey working in her wood shop\, enjoying time with her young family\, or creating something delicious in her kitchen. \n Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. \nTime: Wednesday\, April 26th\, 2023 (5:30pm-7:30pm) \nTuition: $40.00 \nSupply Fee: $30.00 \nLevel: Beginner \n~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials.
