SUMMARY:Glass: "Introduction to Glass Fusing"
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: June 7th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Glass: “Introduction to Glass Fusing” \nDescription:  Come and join us for fun Glass Fusing project! You will be making a 6×6 project to display or hang in your home.  We’ll walk you through each step\, giving you tricks and tips on how to use our glass fusing materials and tools along the way. Once completed the projects will be fired and ready for pick-up the following week. \nInstructor: Cate Woodall is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a visual arts degree specializing in ceramics. She has taught hand-building clay and pottery painting classes as well as glass fusing for several years. She enjoys helping people find a stress free outlet for their creativity. \n Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. \nTime: Saturday\, June 14th 2025 (1:00pm-4:00pm): \nTuition: $50.00 \nSupply Fee: $15.00 \nLevel: Beginner \n~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville\, all their directors\, employees\, volunteers\, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain\, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program. \nCancelation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund\, minus the non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be issued less than 30 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent\, there can be no exceptions to this policy\, regardless for the reason a cancelation is requested. \nThank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time\, energy\, and money to create an amazing learning experience.  \n*We require a minimum number of students to hold a class. If this minimum is not met\, the class may be canceled or rescheduled. In this case\, a full refund will be offered.

SUMMARY:Ceramics: "Face Mug"
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: September 27th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Ceramics: “Face Mug” \nDescription: Face jugs have a long tradition\, with examples found from ancient Greece and Egypt. In the southern United States\, the first examples date to the mid-1800’s and were crafted by enslaved African American potters who created these unique pieces for various purposes. The term ugly jugs was first used in the early 1900’s. Styles of face jugs range from realistic to highly fantastical. In this class you’ll be provided with a basic wheel-thrown mug to decorate using hand-building techniques to create a face that is uniquely yours! Please note:  After class\, the mugs/jugs will be fired in our kiln. There will be a glazing session on Sunday\, June 8th at 1:00 pm. Mugs/jugs will be fired once more after glazing and ready for pick-up within a week. \n  \n  \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Paul Wieland. SUMMARY:Historic Hands: “Foraged Spring Wreath”
DESCRIPTION:Historic Hands: “Foraged Spring Wreath” \nDeadline to Register: May 8th at 5:00pm \nDescription:  Our “Historic Hands” series are workshops that feature traditional projects that are taught at various locations throughout our historic park! Please note: This class will require walking on uneven paths in the outdoors. \nInstructor:  Beth Phillips says “I weave lighting\, sculptures and basketry using whole and split Kudzu vines. I also make paper from the leaves\, and I recently learned the ancient process of extracting the fiber from the vines to weave cloth and am excitedly pursuing that side of creating with kudzu at present. Images and examples of my more recent work can be seen on my social media pages on FB and IG @kudzumama. With the invasive nature of kudzu such an environmental and ecological issue in the South\, I love the opportunity to share all the wonderful uses and products that can be derived from such a maligned vine.” \nSupplies and Attire: All supplies will be provided. SUMMARY:Ceramics: "Introduction to Wheel Throwing"
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: April 19th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Ceramics: “Introduction to Wheel Throwing” \nDescription:  This beginner wheel throwing workshop will cover the basics of shaping clay using an electric pottery wheel. Your instructor will guide you through the essential steps of creating a wheel thrown vessel. Each student will create one or two pieces to be fired and glazed. Students will return on Sunday\, June 2nd to glaze their fired pieces. They will be fired one more time and ready for pick up the following week. \nPlease keep in mind that throwing on the pottery wheel is a skill that can take many years to master. This is an opportunity to get your hands dirty and see what wheel throwing is all about. This is a great class for someone who had never tried a wheel or for students who have taken our “Test Drive” class and want to progress even more. Participants will have the option to keep one to two of your creations to be fired and glazed. \n*There are many variables during the drying and firing process and pieces can crack or even explode. While we make every effort to ensure your work will be a success\, these variables make it impossible to guarantee your work will survive\, but thus is the life of a potter. \n  \nInstructor: Paul Wieland has been making wheel-thrown pottery for over 15 years and has taught at multiple pottery studios throughout the region. He studied ceramics under Tom Marsh at the University of Louisville and was a co-founder of the Tennessee Valley Ceramic Arts Guild (TVCAG). He  has demonstrated pottery-making at the Burritt Museum Folklife Festival for several years. He has also exhibited his work at Lowe Mill in Huntsville and in Atlanta\, GA. You may see examples of Paul’s work on his website\, Nascent Pottery. \n Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Students should wear close-toed shoes. \nTime: Saturday\, April 26th (9:00am-1:00pm) and Sunday\, May 4th (1:00-3:00) \nTuition: $90.00 \nSupply Fee: $20.00 \nLevel: Beginner/Adv.
