DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: March 10th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Weekday Series Stained Glass: “Dragonfly Panel” \nDescription:  This stained glass panel has two layers\, the base layer and the magical dragonfly.  The class will cover all aspects of building a panel plus how to construct and attach an overlay. Two classes in one session!   Beginners are welcome. There will be a half-hour lunch break during this class. We recommend you bring a lunch from home. \n  \nInstructor: Karen Reed has been an art glass professional for over 35 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in four states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years. She has also written for: International Guild of Glass Artists publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, the e-magazine artglassinfo.com\, Fired Arts and Crafts and The Crafts Report. Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work. She has previously taught at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC and has delighted in teaching at Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and Appalachian Center for Crafts for over a decade. Locally\, her work is available at The Huntsville Museum of Art and The Huntsville Art League (Lowe Mill). \nSupplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Designed for grades K-5\, this week-long day camp lets kids explore the great outdoors at Burritt on the Mountain. Campers will immerse themselves in nature by hiking our forested nature trails (weather permitting)\, learning about animals around the world\, and discovering the habitats they live in. Students will explore how each animal is perfectly suited to its environment. With plenty of fresh air\, open spaces for games\, meeting new friends\, and cool crafts\, this camp is the perfect blend of learning and adventure. Sign up today for a week of discovery led by our CPR-certified staff and plenty of individualized attention with our teacher-to-camper ratio of 1:12. \nCamp days run from 9:00 to 2:00. Students should bring their own sack lunch\, but Burritt will provide a snack each day. The cost of the camp is $199 for members or $255 for non-members. DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: March 14th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Ceramics: “Introduction to Wheel Throwing” \nDescription:  This beginner wheel throwing workshop will cover the basics of shaping clay using an electric pottery wheel. Your instructor will guide you through the essential steps of creating a wheel thrown vessel. Each student will create one or two pieces to be fired and glazed. Students will return on Sunday\, April 19th to glaze their fired pieces. They will be fired one more time and ready for pick up the following week. \nPlease keep in mind that throwing on the pottery wheel is a skill that can take many years to master. This is an opportunity to get your hands dirty and see what wheel throwing is all about. This is a great class for someone who had never tried a wheel or for students who have taken our “Test Drive” class and want to progress even more. Participants will have the option to keep one to two of your creations to be fired and glazed. \n*There are many variables during the drying and firing process and pieces can crack or even explode. While we make every effort to ensure your work will be a success\, these variables make it impossible to guarantee your work will survive but this is the life of a potter. \n  \nInstructor: Paul Wieland has been making wheel-thrown pottery for over 15 years and has taught at multiple pottery studios throughout the region. In this beginner-friendly class\, you’ll learn the fundamentals of shaping and forming as you create five unique garden stakes of your choice. Our instructor will guide you through techniques for building sturdy\, decorative pieces that reflect your personal style. \nAfter the initial class\, your stakes will be fired in the kiln. Two weeks later\, you’ll return for a glazing session to add color and finish your creations before their final firing. All clay and tools will be provided. This is a perfect class for beginners to hand-building with clay or anyone looking to add a handmade touch to their garden \n\n*There are many variables during the drying and firing process and pieces can crack or even explode. While we make every effort to ensure your work will be a success\, these variables make it impossible to guarantee your work will survive\, but this is the life of a potter. \nInstructor: Paul Wieland has been making wheel-thrown pottery for over 15 years and has taught at multiple pottery studios throughout the region. Visit our barnyard animals\, experience historic skills\, and learn about life on the farm during the 1800s. Visitors will be fascinated by the sheep-shearing and blacksmithing demonstrations. Learn how to card and wash wool\, observe wool being spun into yarn\, create an animal mask\, and play with old-fashioned toys. \nYou will leave with a new appreciation for modern conveniences after trying historic tasks such as rug beating\, butter churning\, and mattress stuffing! Listen to musicians throughout the park play traditional instruments and music enjoyed during our Alabama beginnings. \nFamilies can also participate in Burritt’s We the People activities for children ages 4-12 and learn about the original families that lived in our historic homes. \nRegular Burritt admissions rates apply\, and this event is free to Burritt Members.
