DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: September 9th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Weekday Series: “Twinkle\, Twinkle Little Star” \nDescription:  This sturdy star is a fun challenge to construct and is appropriate for both beginners and intermediates in glass.  The clear\, iridized glass and the 360degree swivel keeps it twinkling\, sparkling and turning with the slightest breeze or touch. \nThis star was designed to fit in the stand which will be made in the Blacksmithing class in October. You can register for that class here and here. \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Karen Reed. Karen Reed (Earthstar Glass) has been an art glass professional for over 40 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in several states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years.  She has also written for : International Guild of Glass Artist’s publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, Fired Arts\, The Crafts Report and the e-magazine artglassinfo.com  Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work and she has previously taught at folk schools in nine states including John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC\, Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and The Appalachian Center for Craft. She had been at Burritt Folk School for the last six years. Locally her work is available in Josie’s Gift Shop at Burritt on the Mountain and in The Huntsville Art League (Lowe Mill) \n \nSupplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Students should wear close-toed shoes. \nTime: Tuesday\, September 16th  (9:00am – 2:30pm) \nTuition: $95.00 \nSupply Fee: $25.00 \nLevel:  Intermediate \n~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Your instructor will guide you through the essential steps of creating a wheel thrown vessel. Each student will create one or two pieces to be fired and glazed. Students will return on Sunday\, September 7th to glaze their fired pieces. They will be fired one more time and ready for pick up the following week. \nPlease keep in mind that throwing on the pottery wheel is a skill that can take many years to master. This is an opportunity to get your hands dirty and see what wheel throwing is all about. This is a great class for someone who had never tried a wheel or for students who have taken our “Test Drive” class and want to progress even more. Participants will have the option to keep one to two of your creations to be fired and glazed. \n*There are many variables during the drying and firing process and pieces can crack or even explode. While we make every effort to ensure your work will be a success\, these variables make it impossible to guarantee your work will survive\, but thus is the life of a potter. \n  \nInstructor: Paul Wieland has been making wheel-thrown pottery for over 15 years and has taught at multiple pottery studios throughout the region. Previous glass cutting/soldering experience required! \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Karen Reed. Karen Reed (Earthstar Glass) has been an art glass professional for over 40 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in several states. DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: July 18th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Jewelry Making: “Dichroic glass and Sterling Bracelet” \nDescription: Students will create a one of a kind custom sterling silver and dichroic glass cab bracelet.  The students will learn the basics of wire wrapping and using specific tools for specific skills.  They will also learn how to make their own clasp and to size for their particular wrist size.  Glass cabochons will already be provided ready to attach to the bracelet. At the end of class\, you will have a beautiful bracelet. This is a great beginner class\, as well as\, a prerequisite for one of Elesa’s intermediate projects/classes. \nInstructor: This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Elesa Phares. Elesa has taught jewelry making at Burritt on the Mountain for four years. Elesa has a BS in Radio/TV/Graphics with emphasis in 3D animation from Middle Tennessee State University with minors in art and psychology. Elesa has always drawn and painted since she can remember and loves experimenting with different materials. She learned to wire wrap as a creative outlet that she could do while her children were young. As they got older\, she expanded her skills to fabrication\, PMC\, soldering\, and fused glass. Elesa has taught classes at Beadfest in Dallas\, Philadelphia and published an article in Art Jewelry Magazine in 2008. She has participated in juried art shows in Middle Tennessee\, including White Oak\, TACA\, and was a base studio for the local Studio Tour.  She and her father were also featured on a segment of Tennessee Crossroads. DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: July 15th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Weekday Series: “Stained Glass Layered Floral Panel” \nDescription:  This lovely little floral panel has a challenge – it is constructed on five layers!  This class is for the intermediate glass enthusiast\, a fun project that will open up many levels of creativity. Previous glass cutting/soldering experience required! \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Karen Reed. Karen Reed (Earthstar Glass) has been an art glass professional for over 40 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in several states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years.  She has also written for : International Guild of Glass Artist’s publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, Fired Arts\, The Crafts Report and the e-magazine artglassinfo.com  Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work and she has previously taught at folk schools in nine states including John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC\, Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and The Appalachian Center for Craft. She had been at Burritt Folk School for the last six years. Locally her work is available in Josie’s Gift Shop at Burritt on the Mountain and in The Huntsville Art League (Lowe Mill) \n \nSupplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided.
