You will be making 2 Suncatchers in the design of your choice. We will walk you through each step\, giving you tricks and tips on how to use our glass fusing materials and tools along the way. Once completed the projects will be fired and ready for pick-up a week after the class. \nInstructor: Cate Woodall is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a visual arts degree specializing in ceramics. She has taught hand-building clay and pottery painting classes as well as glass fusing for several years. SUMMARY:Ceramics: Face Jugs and Mugs
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: August 8th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Ceramics: “Face Jugs and Mugs” \nDescription: As a traditional pottery form\, face jugs have a long history\, from pre-Columbian America\, ancient Greece\, and medieval Europe\, as well as Africa. The distinctive face jugs of the American south originated in the early 1800s\, developed from African art forms\, and served multiple purposes from practical (carrying water or other liquids) to spiritual (serving as grave markers) to self-identification. In this class\, you will carry on this tradition by creating your own distinctive face vessel using pre-made wheel-thrown mug forms. No prior experience is needed in working with clay.  We will have a glazing session on Sunday September 6th. \nInstructor: Paul Wieland has been making wheel-thrown pottery for over 15 years and has taught at multiple pottery studios throughout the region. He studied ceramics under Tom Marsh at the University of Louisville and was a co-founder of the Tennessee Valley Ceramic Arts Guild (TVCAG). He has demonstrated pottery-making at the Burritt Museum Folklife Festival for several years. He has also exhibited his work at Lowe Mill in Huntsville and in Atlanta\, GA. You may see examples of Paul’s work on his website\, Nascent Pottery. \n Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. The band\nformed with a mission of keeping the legacy of Glenn Miller alive\, and to help introduce newer audiences to the\nwonderful popular music from the big band era\, played by local musicians. Occasionally nicknamed the “Glenn Miller\nband of North America”\, the band strives to reproduce the quality and authenticity of the greats from the 1940s and\n1950s\, including Benny Goodman\, Frank Sinatra\, and Bobby Darin. Our music is great for people of all ages. This is swing\nmusic at its finest\, and it is a style that can never go out of style \nBring your chair\, blanket and picnic to enjoy the evening.
