She has taught hand-building clay and pottery painting classes as well as glass fusing for several years. SUMMARY:Weekday Series: “Twinkle\, Twinkle Little Star”
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: September 9th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Weekday Series: “Twinkle\, Twinkle Little Star” \nDescription:  This sturdy star is a fun challenge to construct and is appropriate for both beginners and intermediates in glass.  The clear\, iridized glass and the 360degree swivel keeps it twinkling\, sparkling and turning with the slightest breeze or touch. \nThis star was designed to fit in the stand which will be made in the Blacksmithing class in October. You can register for that class here and here. \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Karen Reed. Karen Reed (Earthstar Glass) has been an art glass professional for over 40 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in several states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years.  She has also written for : International Guild of Glass Artist’s publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, Fired Arts\, The Crafts Report and the e-magazine artglassinfo.com  Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work and she has previously taught at folk schools in nine states including John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC\, Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and The Appalachian Center for Craft. She had been at Burritt Folk School for the last six years. Locally her work is available in Josie’s Gift Shop at Burritt on the Mountain and in The Huntsville Art League (Lowe Mill) \n \nSupplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Students will lean to construct ceramic forms using pinch method and many other foundational pottery techniques along the way. Please note: This two part class will be held on two different dates to allow for drying time before glazing. \nHand-building Session on September 20th (9:00-11:30) \nDesign\, shape\, and assemble your pumpkin \nGlazing Session on October 5th (1:00-3:00) \nLearn the basics of glazing techniques\nChoose from a selection of colors and finishes \nWhether you’re new to ceramics or just looking for a fun\, creative experience\, this class is a great way to explore pottery in a welcoming and enjoyable setting. I have a one-and-a-half-year-old who helps me see the world anew. I am married to an artist\, who is also a high school art educator. DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: September 13th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Glass: “Twinkle\, Twinkle Little Star” \nDescription:  This sturdy star is a fun challenge to construct and is appropriate for both beginners and intermediates in glass.  The clear\, iridized glass and the 360degree swivel keeps it twinkling\, sparkling and turning with the slightest breeze or touch. \nThis star was designed to fit in the stand which will be made in the Blacksmithing class in October. You can register for that class here and here. \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local artist and Burritt Folk School Principle Instructor\, Karen Reed. Karen Reed (Earthstar Glass) has been an art glass professional for over 40 years. Her work has been purchased for private collections in several countries\, was requested for Christmas display at The White House\, and is carried in galleries in several states. She has been a published\, contributing editor for GLASS Craftsman magazine for 13 years.  She has also written for : International Guild of Glass Artist’s publication: Common Ground Glass\, Glass Art\, Fired Arts\, The Crafts Report and the e-magazine artglassinfo.com  Teaching is a major component of Karen’s work and she has previously taught at folk schools in nine states including John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown\, NC\, Arrowmont School for Arts & Crafts and The Appalachian Center for Craft. She had been at Burritt Folk School for the last six years.
