SUMMARY:Embroidery: "Embellishment and Applique"
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: Saturday\, June 14 at 5:00pm \nTitle: Embroidery: “Embellishment and Applique” \nDescription:  In this workshop\, students will learn several embroidery stitches and techniques. Students are encouraged to bring previous textile projects to embellish\, as well as using their new skills to create something entirely new! Please note:  Students will take home their supplies which will include the following:  Embroidery hoop\, needles\, embroidery floss\, fabric\, fabric marker\, scissors\, beads\, sequins \nThis is a sample of the instructor’s work that showcases the skills that will be taught in this class. \nInstructor: Dezzy Moon is an artist based in Huntsville\, Alabama. She graduated with a BFA in Printmaking from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2020. In printmaking\, she works primarily with screen print and woodblock. She is also dabbles in many crafts\, especially textiles. Her biggest loves are music (particularly rock from the 1960s-80s)\, pop culture\, travel\, roller skating\, and all things vintage. \n  \n Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. \nTime: Saturday\, June 21 (9:00am-12:00pm) \nTuition: $60.00 \nSupply Fee: $30.00 \nLevel: Beginner \n~~~~~~ \nImportant Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville\, all their directors\, employees\, volunteers\, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain\, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program. \nCancelation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund\, minus the non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be issued less than 30 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent\, there can be no exceptions to this policy\, regardless for the reason a cancelation is requested. \nThank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time\, energy\, and money to create an amazing learning experience.  \n*We require a minimum number of students to hold a class. Whether you prefer bold patterns\, delicate motifs\, or freehand illustrations\, sgraffito allows for endless creative possibilities! \nNo prior experience is necessary—this class is perfect for beginners and experienced ceramicists alike. All materials\, tools\, and firing services are included. Come ready to get your hands dirty and leave with a one-of-a-kind ceramic piece! \nInstructor: Jessica Johnson “I am a Wife\, Mother\, Artist\, Educator and Athlete. I have a one-and-a-half-year-old who helps me see the world anew. I am married to an artist\, who is also a high school art educator. I am an active member of the Alabama Women’s Caucus for the Arts and have had my work exhibited around the South.  I am Captain of the Dixie Derby Girls\, Huntsville’s Flat Track Roller Derby Team.  Regarding teaching\, I have been an educator with Huntsville City School since 2011. I have taught the following courses over the years: Art I\, Drawing I/II\, Photo I/II\, Painting I/II\, AP Studio Art 2-D design\, AP Drawing\, Ceramic I/II\, Magnet II and Magnet IV. SUMMARY:Textile Arts: “Drop Spindle for Beginners”
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to Register: June 13th at 5:00pm \nTitle: Textile Arts: “Drop Spindle for Beginners” \nDescription: This class introduces students to the art of spinning yarn using a drop spindle. Participants will learn the fundamentals of fiber preparation\, drafting\, and spinning to create their own handspun yarn. The course will cover different types of fiber\, spindle techniques\, and tips for achieving a balanced yarn. By the end of the class\, students will have a basic understanding of spinning and a small skein of their own yarn to take home. \nInstructor:  This class will be taught by local weaver Emily Wallace. Emily has been teaching weaving\, spinning\, and other fiber arts to the public for  over 10 years. She previously owned a yarn shop in Hartselle\, AL and has taught various workshops at several yarn shops and studios. She  currently has a weaving studio at Lowe Mill Arts (studio #311) where she teaches and sells handwoven items.
