Opera on the Mountain: Learning Through the Arts A collaboration with Burritt on the Mountain and Encore Opera The Bremen Town Musicians Thursday May 6, 2021 @ 10-11:30am Burritt on the Mountain, in partnership with Encore Opera present “The Bremen Town Musicians”. Come enjoy this operatic version of The Town Musicians of Bremen written for children. This somewhat silly and totally fun production includes the music by famous opera composers such as J. Offenbach, G. Rossini, G. Donizetti, A. Sullivan and G. Verdi.

The movement began in 1848 when two women, from the anti-slavery movement, had a meeting with over 300 men and women in attendance.

View EventOn February 2, 1887, Groundhog Day is celebrated for the first time at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Groundhog Day is a day to take everything a little less seriously and break up the winter monotony. Celebrate this tradition at Burritt on the Mountain with Alabama’s true weather forecasting groundhog Smith Lake Jake. According to legend, if Smith Lake Jake sees his shadow, he’ll return to his den and winter will continue for another six weeks. If he doesn’t see his shadow, spring will arrive early. Hot cocoa, cookies and Groundhog themed crafts add to the fun.
Using the forge, anvil, and basic hand tools students will learn to make key fobs and hooks.
In this 3 hour class, students will continue to expand on wire wrapping skills by learning more techniques with specific tools. Please note: this is an intermediate class open only to students who have taken the Beginner Pattern Wire Bracelet workshop.

This year we are excited to collaborate with the Huntsville Community Drumline who will give a special outside performance at 12:30pm. This event is made possible due to the generous support of William L. Ingram V. Aesthetic & Implant Dentistry. Before or after the performance, join us as we learn about the lives of the famed Buffalo Soldiers and then spend some time in our replica Rosenwald Schoolhouse to discover what education for African American students looked like in the South in the early 1900s. This will be a day of fun and learning you will not forget.
