Title: Cooking: “Pepper Jelly”
Description: Join us for a hands-on pepper jelly-making workshop featuring vibrant bell peppers! In this class, you’ll learn the basics of preparing and cooking fresh peppers, along with tips for balancing sweetness and tang. Our instructor will guide you through the jelly-making process, from chopping to canning. You’ll get to create your own batch of mild, flavorful pepper jelly to take home and enjoy. Perfect for beginners, this workshop focuses on crafting a delicious spread without the heat. Bring your enthusiasm, and leave with a jar of homemade pepper jelly!
Instructor: Kristen Roberson is a native of Lauderdale County, Alabama where her family has lived and farmed for many generations. She learned the process of canning various vegetables and fruits in her grandmother’s kitchen. “I love the process of canning. The women of my family gather regularly at my grandmother’s house to learn from her how to can various produce. We can pickles, vegetable soup, tomatoes, salsa and muscadine jelly- all using produce from her garden. I have explored different fruits on my own and have fallen in love with the process.” Kristen currently lives near Huntsville with her husband (her occasional assistant) and son. She has enjoyed teaching friends and family her love of preserving home-grown foods and is excited to bring those lessons to students at Burritt.
