Title: Ceramics: “Garden Stakes”

Description:

Join us for a fun and creative introduction to hand-building with clay! In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of shaping and forming as you create five unique garden stakes of your choice. Our instructor will guide you through techniques for building sturdy, decorative pieces that reflect your personal style.

After the initial class, your stakes will be fired in the kiln. Two weeks later, you’ll return for a glazing session to add color and finish your creations before their final firing. All clay and tools will be provided. This is a perfect class for beginners to hand-building with clay or anyone looking to add a handmade touch to their garden

*There are many variables during the drying and firing process and pieces can crack or even explode. While we make every effort to ensure your work will be a success, these variables make it impossible to guarantee your work will survive, but this is the life of a potter.

Instructor: Paul Wieland has been making wheel-thrown pottery for over 15 years and has taught at multiple pottery studios throughout the region. He studied ceramics under Tom Marsh at the University of Louisville and was a co-founder of the Tennessee Valley Ceramic Arts Guild (TVCAG). He  has demonstrated pottery-making at the Burritt Museum Folklife Festival for several years. He has also exhibited his work at Lowe Mill in Huntsville and in Atlanta, GA. You may see examples of Paul’s work on his website, Nascent Pottery.

Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided. Students should wear close-toed shoes.

Time: Saturday, March 28th (1:00-3:00) and Sunday, April 12 (1:00-3:00)

Tuition: $60.00
