Title: Folk School PreView: “Cross-Stitch Jungle Flower”

Join us for an evening of fun and folklife at our Folk School PreView! Held once a month during Burritt’s “Cocktails on the View” students will participate in a two hour introductory class taught by a Folk School instructor and enjoy cocktails and appetizers while creating their own project. Arrive at 5:00 pm and visit The View to purchase a drink and see the Huntsville skyline from Burritt’s 3000 square foot overlook. The class will begin at 5:30 and end by 7:30 giving you another thirty minutes to enjoy The View after class ends. A small charcuterie box of meats, cheeses, and other items will be served in class and this is included in the ticket price. These “previews” of our Folk School are perfect for socializing with friends or date night. Have a group of 6 or more and interested in a private event? Email jana.parris@huntsvilleal.gov.

Description:  In this beginner class, students will learn how to thread a needle, use a hoop, read a pattern, and do a basic “x” stitch. Because stitching is done at an individual speed, I will make sure that those who don’t finish in class have the skills and resources to finish at home – as well as my email address for follow-up questions.

Instructor: Peace Smith has been a fiber & textile artist for 30 years. Her interests and skill include cross-stitch, knitting, crocheting, and sewing (machine and hand). She is a multimedia artist and also creates with glass, paper, wood, and metal. You can see her work at Foothills Folk Arts.

Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided.

Time: Wednesday, June 28th, 2023 (5:30pm-7:30pm)

Tuition: $55.00

Supply Fee: $15.00

Level: Beginner

Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.

Cancelation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund, minus the non-refundable deposit. If a cancelation is requested 14 to 29 days from a class date, a refund of half the total price can be issued. No refunds will be issued less than 14 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent, there can be no exceptions to this policy, regardless for the reason a cancelation is requested.

Thank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time, energy, and money to create an amazing learning experience.

*We require a minimum number of students to hold a class. If this minimum is not met, the class may be canceled or rescheduled. In this case, a full refund will be offered.
