Title: Folk School PreView: “Wood-burned Pocket Flower Press”

Join us for an evening of fun and folklife at our Folk School PreView! Held once a month during Burritt’s “Cocktails on the View” students will participate in a two hour introductory class taught by a Folk School instructor and enjoy cocktails and appetizers while creating their own project. Arrive at 5:00 pm and visit The View to purchase a drink and see the Huntsville skyline from Burritt’s 3000 square foot overlook. The class will begin at 5:30 and end by 7:30 giving you another thirty minutes to enjoy The View after class ends.

A small charcuterie box of meats, cheeses, and other other snacks is available for purchase for $12. Please see ticket below. If you order a small charcuterie box, you will receive it upon check-in.

Description: Immerse yourself in an unforgettable evening and discover the art of wood-burning alongside local pyrographer, Lauren Concepcion, as you create your very own pocket-sized travel flower press. Under Lauren’s expert guidance, you’ll delve into the foundations of wood-burning, master the essential techniques, and learn about burner usage and maintenance. Step-by-step, she’ll reveal her artistic process for each project and provide a range of designs to choose from. All necessary materials will be provided.

As a delightful bonus, Lauren will offer freshly foraged, cut flowers to kickstart your flower pressing journey!

Instructor:  Lauren Concepcion Originally a psychology graduate, with the intent on studying landscape architecture, Lauren has explored many creative paths. Getting her start about 6 years ago, all these paths eventually morphed and converged into something entirely different: wood-burning. Being a drawer and maker of things all her life, Lauren believes in filling our environments with thoughtful and meaningful pieces; that hand-made items are special, purposeful and invaluable. She hopes to share this belief, along with the reawakening of this forgotten technique, with others. Important Information: Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.

Cancelation Policy:  Our workshops take a great deal of advance planning and purchasing of supplies. 25% of all ticket purchases are a non-refundable deposit. Students that cancel 30 days or more prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a refund, minus the non-refundable deposit. If a cancelation is requested 14 to 29 days from a class date, a refund of half the total price can be issued. No refunds will be issued less than 14 days from the start date of a class.*  To be fair and consistent, there can be no exceptions to this policy, regardless for the reason a cancelation is requested.

Thank you for understanding that this policy is in place to protect our artist instructors who spend time, energy, and money to create an amazing learning experience. 

*We require a minimum number of students to hold a class. If this minimum is not met, the class may be canceled or rescheduled. In this case, a full refund will be offered.
