African Americans in Education and the Arts February 10, 2024, 10am-4pm To commemorate Black History month, come celebrate “African Americans in Education and the Arts” at Burritt. Experience what it was like to be a student at a Rosenwald Schoolhouse in the early 20th century with hands-on activities led by a Burritt educator. Express your creativity with an African American folk-art craft and participate in a themed scavenger hunt throughout the Historic Park. Explore the life and legacy of Booker T. Washington, reformer and educator who founded what is now Tuskegee University.

A day of Open Hearth Cooking, Blacksmithing and Fires Burning throughout the Historic Park! You won’t want to miss Burritt’s Fire on the Mountain on Saturday, March 2nd, from 10:00 – 3:00. Our historic cooks will transport you back to the 1800s as you see, hear, and smell their work as they prepare historic recipes over our open fires and cast-iron cook stove. In addition, our blacksmiths will be firing up the forges throughout the historic park to demonstrate this fascinating skill.

Let’s Go to CAMP! Nature Rangers Spring Camp March 11-15 K-5th Grade | 9:00 – 2:00 Extended day options available Registration Open! Deadline to Register is Tuesday, March 5th. Travel back to the past to experience how early Alabama settlers lived. Campers in grades K-5th will enjoy hands-on experiences with the chores of pioneer children. They’ll help feed the barnyard animals, try their hand at weaving, and see what it’s like to help out in a historic kitchen. Campers will play with old-fashioned toys and participate in fun games from the 1800’s, as well as favorites from today.

Spring Farm Day Saturday April 13th | 10am-4pm Join us for a taste of springtime on the farm. Visit our barnyard animals, experience historic skills, and learn about life on the farm during the 1800’s. Visitors will be fascinated by the sheep-shearing and blacksmithing demonstrations. Come observe wool being spun into yarn, milk our faux cow - Boxy, see our sheep be sheared, and play with old-fashioned toys.
