Shhhh! Secrets of the Forest: A Nature Mystery Camp July 13-17, 2026 Join us for a week of outdoor discovery and imaginative exploration. Set on Burritt’s beautiful grounds, this camp invites children to slow down, look closely, and connect with the natural world through a story-based mystery woven throughout the week. As campers explore Burritt’s trails, farm areas, and outdoor spaces, they will follow a nature-themed storyline that encourages them to observe animal tracks, habitats, and behaviors.

Burritt on the Mountain is excited to partner with The North Alabama Zoological Society (NALZS) and Beth Girard, a retired natural resource educator and Tennessee Naturalist Program Volunteer, for our Reptile Day this year. NALZS will bring their reptile ambassadors Apollo, the king snake, Million, an African Pygmy hedgehog, Twickenham, a Sulcata tortoise, and Squirtle a yellow-bellied slider turtle. Beth Girard will bring her menagerie of reptiles, including a legless lizard, a blue-tongue skink, a terrestrial non-tortoise turtle, and an aquatic turtle. Burritt will also introduce you to our education Snake Ambassador SAL.

In this introductory class, students will create a simple no-sew leather pouch using basic leather prep techniques and learning the difference between leather paint and acrylic paint they will practice brush painting and stencil painting, completing and personalizing their own painted leather pouch.

You will be making 2 Suncatchers in the design of your choice. We’ll walk you through each step, giving you tricks and tips on how to use our glass fusing materials and tools along the way. Once completed the projects will be fired and ready for pick-up a week after the class.

Jurassic Explorers Camp July 20-24, 2026 Can you tell whether this tail bone comes from a T. rex or a Stegosaurus? Where do fossils come from? Just how big is a Velociraptor? Curiosity is at its peak—and it’s the perfect time for Jurassic Explorers! Burritt invites your young paleontologist to a dinosaur-themed adventure packed with hands-on science and imaginative play. Campers will use microscopes to explore cells, dig for “dinosaur bones,” create an erupting volcano, investigate “dinosaur eggs,” and hike the trail in search of limestone “pancakes,” fossils, and other natural treasures.
