Using the forge, anvil, and basic hand tools you will learn to draw a taper, bend, flatten or spread, twist, and punch holes. Using these techniques you will make your own wall hooks to hang your things!
You like working in clay and have already made your first bowls or mugs on a potter's wheel. Now you want to do more. In this class you'll build on your basic skills to make bigger and better bowls, mugs with handles, and other forms.
EXPLORE NATURE Birding at Burritt January 25 | 10am-4pm Join us for “Birding at Burritt” to chase away the winter blahs. This family-friendly, fun-filled day includes a falconry presentation, an Audubon Society-led guided hike, and a visit to the Barnyard. Enjoy “Beauties of the Sky,” an hour-long presentation by Tommy Howell showcasing his collection of unusual birds. MANSION EXHIBIT History Lives On: Preserving Alabama’s Rosenwald Schools Burritt Museum is proud to announce that History Lives On: Preserving Alabama’s Rosenwald Schools will be the Spring 2025 exhibit in the Burritt Mansion. The exhibit is on loan from Auburn University’s College of Architecture, Design and Construction who partnered with the Alabama Department of Archives to study the partnership between Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington and the importance of what these men accomplished. The exhibit also focuses on the local communities and their roles in raising funds to support these educational projects.
This advanced class will focus on the steps needed to make your own blacksmith tongs. Each student should complete a basic set of flat jaw tongs, and have the working knowledge to make other tong styles.
