Title: Cooking: “Holiday Pies”
Description: Come and join us for a three hour class learning traditional pie making using fresh pumpkins and apples from Isom’s Orchard in Limestone county. We will start with whole pumpkins and apples and discuss cooking them down, spicing them, and proper preparation for baking. Students will be given a pie crust recipe that they can use to make any pie throughout the holiday season. They will also learn how to properly make the crust, including both deep dish and lattice-top styles. Each student will leave with one apple pie and one pumpkin pie to bake at home.

Instructor: Lindsey Boothe is a lifelong resident of Appalachia and has been a traditional spoon carver for most of her adult life. “I have a deep passion for my Appalachian heritage and for the people here. A lot of that has to do with the strong communities you’ll find throughout the region. I am working to bring those back.” In addition to spoon carving, Lindsey loves to prepare traditional Appalachian foods for her family and friends. After leaving her home state of West Virginia and moving to Madison in 2020, she has become involved in several community initiatives involving traditional crafting and cooking. You can almost always find Lindsey working in her wood shop, enjoying time with her young family, or creating something delicious in her kitchen.
