Title: Cooking: “Peach Preserves”

Description: Come and join us for a three hour class learning traditional preserve making techniques using locally grown peaches from Isom’s Orchard located in Limestone County. Students will be given a recipe that they can use to make homemade jam or preserves from any fruit they choose. They will also learn how to safely process their preserves in a water bath canner to ensure it is shelf stable. While they wait for the canning process to be completed, students will be offered a variety of materials to decorate their jars. Each student will leave with 3-4 pint jars of preserves they make and can themselves under the guidance of instructor, Lindsey Boothe.

Instructor: Lindsey Boothe is a lifelong resident of Appalachia and has been a traditional spoon carver for most of her adult life. “I have a deep passion for my Appalachian heritage and for the people here. A lot of that has to do with the strong communities you’ll find throughout the region. I am working to bring those back.” In addition to  spoon carving, Lindsey loves to prepare traditional Appalachian foods for her family and friends. After leaving her home state of West Virginia and moving to Madison in 2020, she has become involved in several community initiatives involving traditional crafting and cooking. You can almost always find Lindsey working in her wood shop, enjoying time with her young family, or creating something delicious in her kitchen.
