May is Preservation Month, and there is no better time to take a closer look at the buildings that define Burritt’s Historic Park.
Join us for special Architectural Tours that go beyond the surface to explore how these structures were built, how they were used, and why they matter today. From hand-hewn logs and original construction techniques to the stories of the people who lived and worked in these spaces, these tours offer a deeper understanding of everyday life in 19th-century North Alabama.
Burritt on the Mountain is home to six 19th century historic houses and the distinctive 1938 Burritt Mansion, representing five unique architectural styles. Among them, the Dogtrot reflects a traditional Southern design, the Hall-and-Parlor style traces its roots to medieval England, and the Saddlebag house type stems from Scotch Irish origins. Spend a few hours with us exploring the details that make each structure truly one of a kind.
We will gather at the Welcome Center to begin our tour. While there are benches in the park, this will be mostly a walk-and-talk event, so wear comfortable shoes.
Tours are included with General Admission or your Burritt Membership. Spots are limited, so be sure to plan ahead and RSVP to reserve your spot.
